Frequently asked

The most asked questions about civil marriage in Switzerland.

Where can you marry civilly in Switzerland?
In principle at any civil registry office in Switzerland. In addition, most cantons publish a list of external venues — castles, fortresses, historic halls — where the ceremony can take place on the official wedding day.
How far in advance should you book?
Popular external venues like Chillon Castle or Castelgrande Bellinzona are booked out 12 to 18 months ahead. Civil registry offices are more flexible and can usually offer a date within 8–10 weeks.
Are there extra costs for an external venue?
Yes. An ordinary marriage at the registry office costs around CHF 300. External venues charge a surcharge — usually between CHF 200 and CHF 1,200, depending on the canton and venue.
Do I need witnesses?
Yes, two witnesses of legal age. They must be able to identify themselves with official ID on the wedding day and need not be related to the couple.
Where does the data on this site come from?
From the official eCH-0136 register of the Federal Office of Justice and from the publicly published lists of each canton. Every entry links directly back to the original source.
About this project

An open map of all Swiss wedding venues.

While planning our wedding we wanted to know: where can you actually marry civilly in Switzerland? The answer was scattered across 26 cantonal websites, in PDFs, in hand-kept tables — and nowhere on a map. This site solves exactly that.

We aggregate the official eCH-0136 register of the Federal Office of Justice and the publicly published lists of every canton. Every entry links to the original source. We charge no fee, show no ads and store no personal data.

Important: This site is not an official portal. Before any booking, contact the responsible civil registry office — the linked source is authoritative.
