Where can you marry civilly in Switzerland?
In principle at any civil registry office in Switzerland. In addition, most cantons publish a list of external venues — castles, fortresses, historic halls — where the ceremony can take place on the official wedding day.
How far in advance should you book?
It depends on the office. Many offices publish the dates for the following year, and popular Saturdays are often taken early. Each venue page shows which dates the office has published and which are already booked.
Are there extra costs for an external venue?
Often, yes. The fees for the ceremony itself are set by the federal government. For a venue outside the office, many municipalities charge rent or a surcharge on top. Where the office publishes the amount, it is shown on the venue page.
Do I need witnesses?
Yes, two witnesses of legal age. They must be able to identify themselves with official ID on the wedding day and need not be related to the couple.
Where does the data on this site come from?
Which civil registry office is responsible for which municipality comes from the federal directory (the eCH-0136 standard). The venues and their dates come from the pages the offices and cantons publish themselves. Every entry links directly back to the original source.

When we were planning our own wedding, we couldn't find a simple overview: which registry offices and venues in Switzerland can you actually get married in? The details were scattered across cantonal websites and PDFs. So we gathered them in one place and put them on a map.

We bring two things together: the federal directory of responsible civil registry offices (the eCH-0136 standard) and the venues and their dates, as the offices and cantons publish them themselves. Every entry links to the original source. Searching is free and there are no ads. The only thing we charge for is the date alert: the first one is free, each further one costs CHF 4, at most 3 a month. If you don't ask for alerts, you leave us no details.
